REKAYASA PEMANFAATAN LIMBAH KACA RUMAH TANGGA SEBAGAI MEDIA AKTIF PENURUN BESI (Fe) dan MANGAN (Mn) DALAM AIR TANAH

Geographic and geologic factors of Bantul regency are highly influencing chemistry structure of underground water, because of soil structure of Bantul area was dominated by soil types of Litosol, Latosol, and Regosol that were rich in Fe, Mn, Ca, and Mg minerals. The purpose of this research is to reach usage engineering of domestic glass waste as active medium of decreasing Fe and Mn content in underground water. This technique is an applied technology so that it can be independently worked-out and used by people in commons.
Domestic glass waste used in this research is having particle dimension between 2.0 mm and 1.0 mm in diameter and activated by KMnO (PK). The 4 thickness variations of active glass medium are ranged from 10 cm to 120 cm with thickness multiplication of 10 cm, conducted within PVC having diameter of 4 inches for reaching the influence thickness of decreasing Fe and Mn concentration. Water debit used was maximum faucet measure of ½ inch with height of tower bottom is 2.0 m.
Laboratory test result showed that the basic water originated from Srandakan district area having Fe content of 2.9 mg/lt and Mn content of 1.3 mg/lt can be optimally decreased to be 0.3 mg/lt in Fe content and 0.2 mg/lt in Mn content at active glass medium thickness of 70 cm. The conclusion drawing up from this research is that usage engineering of glass waste as an active medium of decreasing Fe and Mn content in underground water may be used as an applied technology for people in commons
